Royal Armouries Museum

The Royal Armouries Museum is located in Leeds, in the UK. The building is really modern: it consists in a steel and glass structure where are hung many kinds of armours. One the floor there is a time capsule: its aim is to commemorate and remember the day when the museum was inaugurated: 15th March 1996. The Museum consists of several floors, each one dedicated to a different perspective of the word from the ancient times to the second world war.

There are different galleries, among which the one dedicated to Asia, where are preserved different objects: helmets, shields, weapons, swords, bows and arrows. Here you will find a huge elephant armour from the 17th century, which weights almost 120 kg. Since it is very big and majestic, it has been added to the Guinness World Record as the biggest armour for animals in the world.

If you are interested in finding out every curiosity about the war and look at the different armour that were used, this is the right place for you. The visit is free and very short.

Il Royal Armouries Museum si trova a Leeds, nel Regno Unito. L’edificio è molto moderno: consiste in una struttura in acciaio e vetro a cui sono appese diversi tipi di armi ed armature. Sul pavimento è inserita una capsula del tempo, volta a ricordare e commemorare il giorno in cui fu inaugurato il museo: il 15 marzo 1996. Il Museo è costituito da più piani, ognuno dedicato ad una prospettiva diversa della guerra dall’antichità alla seconda guerra mondiale.

Vi sono quindi diverse gallerie, tra le quali quella dedicata all’Asia, in cui sono conservati oggetti di ogni tipo: elmi, scudi, armi, spade, archi e frecce. Qui troverete un’enorme armatura di elefante risalente al XVII secolo, che pesa quasi 120 kg. Data la sua imponenza e maestosità, è stat inserita nel Guinness dei primati come  più grande armatura per animali al mondo.

Se siete interessati a scoprire tutte le curiosità riguardanti la guerra e vedere le armi e le armature che venivano usate, questo è il posto che fa per voi. La mostra è gratuita e la visita non dura molto.
