Fori Imperiali

ENGLISH:

The Imperial Forums are a series of monumental squares which were built between 46 B.C. and 113 D.C.: they are made up of several areas placed on different levels.

The first Forum is the Forum of Caesar: it is a square with arcades built in 46 B.C. at the behest of Julius Caesar and in the center it presents the temple dedicated to Venus.

Then there is the Forum of August, inaugurated in D.C. by Octavian, comprends the temple of Mars.

Between the Forum of August and the Forum of Caesar it was built the famous Temple of Peace, which was initially characterized by water basins and bases for the various statues.

The Forum of Nerva, dating back to 98 AD, was dedicated to Minerva and wanted by Domitian, but inaugurated by Nerva.

The Forum of Trajan was built in 122 D.C. by the same Trajan, together with the Ulpia Basilica and the Trajan’s Column. It is the biggest one and, in the center of its sqaure there is an equestrian statue of Trajan.

In the same year as when it was built the Forum of Trajan, were born the Trajan’s markets: a complex of brick buildings, divided into several levels.

The archeological site of the Imperial Forums is open everyday and the opening and closing times change very often.

This magnificent place is located near the Colosseum, so it is really easy to find it. You absolutely have to visit it because it is one of a kind and really fascinating.

ITALIANO:
