Castle Howard

Castle Howard is a beautiful castle which is located 24 km from the city of York, in the North Yorkshire in England. It was built between 1699 and 1712 by Sir John Vanbrugh for the Howard family that still owns it. The word “castle” means a English country house built on the site of an old castle. The builing occupies an area of 2400 ectars and it comprends woods, parks, gardens, statues and terraces on the lake. Something very suggestive is the fenced garden dating back to the XVIII century and it contains a collection of historical roses with bright colors and pleasant scents. There is the majestic Atlas Fountain which comprends a fascinating collection of lead statues, lakes and terraces.

With its huge garden, Castle Howard is a very peaceful place where you can relax while admiring the magnificent landscape.

Castle Howard è un bellissimo castello che si trova a circa 24 km dalla città di York, nel North Yorkshire in Inghilterra. Fu costruito tra il 1699 e il 1712  da Sir John Vanbrugh per la famiglia Howard che ancora possiede questa residenza signorile. Il termine “castle” non è inteso con il significato di “castello” ma di una casa di campagna inglese costruita sul sito di un antico castello. La struttura occupa un’area di 2400 ettari di terreno che comprende boschi, parchi, giardini, statue e terrazze su un lago. Molto suggestivo è il giardino recintato risalente al XVIII sec. e contiene una collezione di rose storiche dai colori accesi e dai profumi molto piacevoli. Vi è la maestosa Fontana dell’Atlante che comprende una affascinante collezione di statue in piombo, laghi e terrazze.

Con il suo enorme giardino, Castle Howard costituisce un luogo molto tranquillo e adatto per rilassarsi godendosi il magnifico panorama.
