Ceglie Messapica

Ceglie Messapica is a beautiful italian village that is located in the province of Brindisi, in Apulia. It is located on the Plateau of Murge and it is a few kilometres from Ostuni and Taranto, two famous apulian cities. What particularly carachterizes the village is the wonderful natural landscape consisting of olive trees, typical trulli and farms. The old town of Ceglie Messapica hosts some architectural works dating back to the medieval period and it is well cared for and organized. The most important buildings of this plcae are: the Ducal Castle, inside which there is a library; the square tower, which is the symbol of Ceglie; the Collegiata Church of Santa Maria Assunta, of romanesque origin; the Clock Tower, which has been recently built and which is located in Square Plebiscito.

The enchanting landscape consists mostly of magnificent glimpses of the apulian countryside and of very old buildings, but preserved with great care. Moreover, Ceglie is also famous because it offers typical apulian dishes and products such as some types of cheese and cured meat. The villege is mostly known nationally for its biscuit of Ceglie, a dessert which is loved by the tourists and that we suggest you to try.

Ceglie Messapica è un bellissimo borgo italiano che si trova in provincia di Brindisi, in Puglia. Sorge sull’Altopiano delle Murge e dista pochi chilometri sia da Ostuni che da Taranto, due famosissime città pugliesi. Ciò che caratterizza in modo particolare questo borgo è il meraviglioso panorama naturale costituito dagli uliveti, dai tipici trulli e dalle masserie. Il centro storico di Ceglie Messapica ospita alcune opere architettoniche appartenenti al periodo medievale ed è ben curato ed organizzato. Gli edifici più importanti di questa località sono: il Castello Ducale, al cui interno c’è una biblioteca; la torre quadrata, che è il simbolo di Ceglie; la Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, di origine romanica; la Torre dell’Orologio, che è stata costruita recentemente e che si trova in piazza Plebiscito.

L’incantevole paesaggio è costituito soprattutto da magnifici scorci della campagna pugliese e da costruzioni molto antiche, ma preservate con molta cura. Inoltre, Ceglie è famosa anche perchè offre i tipici piatti e prodotti della cucina pugliese come alcuni gustosi tipi di formaggi e salumi. Il borgo è però conosciuto a livello nazionale per il suo biscotto di Ceglie, dolce amato dai turisti e che vi consigliamo assolutamente di assaggiare.
